SONG, MYEONG DAL, VICEMINISTRO DE OCÉANOS Y PESCA DE LA REPÚBLICA DE COREA, TRAS FINALIZAR SU REUNIÓN EN LA CIUDAD GUBERNAMENTAL DE SEJONG.
El Ministerio de Océanos y
Pesca de Corea del Sur anunció el día 16 que el viceministro Song Myeongdal y
el embajador de Panamá en Corea, Diego Manuel Villanueva Martinelli,
discutieron sobre la cooperación entre ambos países en los sectores marítimo y
de transporte naval.
Panamá, donde se encuentra el
Canal de Panamá —un punto estratégico en la logística marítima que conecta el
océano Pacífico con el Atlántico—, es un país clave para el comercio marítimo
mundial. Corea del Sur ocupa el cuarto lugar en volumen de carga transportada a
través del canal, después de China, Estados Unidos y Singapur.
Ese mismo día, el viceministro
Song Myeongdal acordó continuar desarrollando la cooperación bilateral en los
sectores de transporte marítimo y logística, tomando como base el Memorando de
Entendimiento (MOU) firmado entre Corea y Panamá en noviembre de 2019. También
se discutieron medidas para fortalecer la colaboración en el ámbito marítimo,
incluyendo las elecciones de los Estados Miembros del Consejo de la
Organización Marítima Internacional (OMI), que se celebrarán a finales de
noviembre.
Adicionalmente, el
viceministro Song invitó a Panamá —país anfitrión de la 8.ª edición de la
Conferencia "Our Ocean" (OOC, por sus siglas en inglés)— a participar
en la 10.ª edición de dicha conferencia, que se celebrará a finales de este mes
en Busan. Expresó su deseo de que este evento se convierta en un espacio de
diálogo constructivo para fortalecer la cooperación entre ambos países en
asuntos marítimos y pesqueros.
“El papel de Panamá como país
central en la logística marítima de América Latina es fundamental para la
industria naviera de Corea,” destacó Song, y añadió: “Espero que esta reunión
sirva como una oportunidad para consolidar la cooperación bilateral en áreas
como el transporte marítimo y los asuntos marítimos.”

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries of South Korea announced on the 16th that Vice Minister Song Myeongdal and Panama's Ambassador to Korea, Diego Manuel Villanueva Martinelli, held discussions regarding bilateral cooperation in the maritime and shipping sectors.
Panama, home to the Panama Canal—a strategic point in global maritime logistics connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans—is a key country for international maritime trade. South Korea ranks fourth in cargo volume transiting the Canal, following China, the United States, and Singapore.
That same day, Vice Minister Song Myeongdal agreed to continue advancing bilateral cooperation in maritime transport and logistics, building upon the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Korea and Panama in November 2019. Measures to strengthen collaboration in the maritime domain were also discussed, including the upcoming elections for the Member States of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council, scheduled for late November.
Additionally, Vice Minister Song extended an invitation to Panama—the host country of the 8th edition of the Our Ocean Conference (OOC)—to participate in the 10th edition of the conference, which will be held later this month in Busan. He expressed his hope that the event would serve as a constructive platform for dialogue to enhance cooperation between the two nations in maritime and fisheries matters.
“Panama’s role as a central hub for maritime logistics in Latin America is vital to Korea’s shipping industry,” Vice Minister Song emphasized, adding, “I hope this meeting will serve as an opportunity to further solidify bilateral cooperation in areas such as maritime transport and ocean affairs.”
